Layla Zoe: Blues Diva

Posted by joan | news | Thursday 21 September 2006 2:23 pm

Layla Zoe Darling of the Blues To see Layla Zoe jogging along the beach, making her own veggie treats or popping down to the post office to mail another CD order produced in her home-based studio, it would not be obvious that this is a burgeoning blues diva. This busy yet unassuming lifestyle includes everything from watching movies and working on her website to producing her own albums and playing gigs and festivals around the world.

“One thing I love about performing at so many festivals is that I am constantly introduced to new artists and their music.” she says. “I tire easily of the mainstream music and radio and am more interested in what is independently done.”

Though barely into her 30’s Layla is working on her fifth self produced album, set to be released in 2009. She has shared the stage with the late Jeff Healey, David Gogo, the Downchild Blues band, Buddy Guy keyboardist Marty Sammon along with myriad other greats. She’s come a long way from her first show at Vancouver’ Fairview Pub as the 16 year old daughter of one of the guys in the band to gaining international recognition. As winner of the Blues Heritage Contest in Finland and Female Vocalist of the Year award at the Vancouver Island Music Awards in 2007, the spotlight has begun to shine on her solo career.
